Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) seek to reduce abortion incidence by providing counseling to pregnant women. Using a 30-year county-level panel from North and South Carolina, I estimate that CPC presence reduces abortion rates by 18 percent, with the largest effects among teenagers and young women.

Solar mandates are spreading rapidly. Combining an engineering model of private payoffs with adoption data from California new construction, we find that most buildings forgo solar despite positive payoffs, and that San Francisco’s and California’s mandates increased solar adoption considerably.

Municipal solar policies aimed at historical preservation slow the adoption of solar photovoltaics. Using a survey of German municipalities and administrative data on all solar installations, we find that municipalities restricting solar installations in their building codes have 10.4 percent less solar capacity.

The Lucy Calkins Programs in reading and writing have, at most, very small average effects on student achievement in ELA relative to the “business as usual” approach of using other reading and writing programs.
