Impact Evaluation of the Lucy Calkins Units of Study Program

Abstract

The Lucy Calkins Units of Study Program is a widely used program that consists of materials and methods for teaching reading and writing in Grades K–8. In a school district in metro Atlanta, the Lucy Calkins Programs in reading and writing have, at most, very small average effects on student achievement in ELA relative to the “business as usual” approach of using other reading and writing programs.
